Riparian grazing – new report confirms it is a health issue
A report just released by the Department of Health confirms that riparian grazing creates significant risks to water quality. The report, Public Health Issues with Stock accessing water upstream of drinking water takeoffs, was prepared by consultants Water Futures, and according to the Age was ‘quietly placed on the Department of Health’s website last week’.
We made the same point in our analysis of the obligations of the Victorian government and water authorities legal responsibilities with respect to drinking water quality in a report we prepared for the Victorian National Parks Association over two years ago.
The report to the Department of Health makes a number of recommendations for action to address the risk, which we are currently reviewing.
