EDO semester volunteering program—applications closing 1 March 2012

The EDO offers the opportunity for law students to participate in our volunteer program during first semester 2012. Volunteers work one full day per week at the EDO office. Places are available to law students with an interest in environmental issues and environmental law. Those pursuing additional study in a related field such as science or environmental policy are also encouraged to apply. Cows in Alpine National Parks ruled ‘clearly unacceptable’

The Federal Environment Minister Tony Burke yesterday ruled that the Victorian Government's proposed alpine grazing trial would have a 'clearly unacceptable' impact on the National Heritage values of the Alpine National Park, and would not receive approval under the Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act 1999. Environment Protester takes Victoria Police to VCAT under the Information Privacy Act

The EDO is representing Lisa Caripis, a participant in a 2010 protest at the Hazelwood power station. Ms Caripis has lodged an appeal with VCAT alleging that Victoria Police has breached her privacy by filming and photographing her at the protest and then refusing to destroy the footage. EDO co-hosts EIA Reform Experts Roundtable

With the State Government currently considering reform of the Environment Effects Statement process, EDO this week co-hosted a roundtable discussion attended by around 40 experts in environmental impact assessment (EIA), including consultants, technical experts, lawyers, barristers and planners.
